A 35-Million-Year Moment

An embroidery artwork of an elderly female figure resembling Homo Erectus species sitting in a wooden chair with legs extended forward.

Above our heads: An elderly female figure resembling the Homo Erectus species sits in a wooden chair on the edge of a grassy cliff with legs extended forward. Behind her is the last light of dusk glowing on the horizon, and the rest of the image is almost entirely a bluish-purple. Painting, embroidery, and fabric applique create a dynamic surface texture.

Remote Connection No. 10

Beneath us: A mixed media artwork expressing an overwhelming experience during a large group zoom call. In the top half, the image of a Iranian-American woman is partially obscured by a large maroon amorphous shape, and ghostly outlines of other people. Closing tightly around her are pieces of other faces trapped within small squares, twisting in orientation. Appearing like reflections in the bottom half, are the overlapping outlines of several people — shown only from the shoulders up — among colorful paint drips.
